What is an implant?
An implant replaces the root of a missing tooth. Strong and long-lasting, it gives you a fixed tooth that looks and works like a natural one.
What is an implant for?
An implant replaces one or more missing teeth. Its role is first functional: it lets you chew normally and helps preserve the jawbone. It is also aesthetic, and spares you a removable denture with clasps.
Three components
The implant, a small titanium screw placed in the bone, which acts as the root.
The abutment, screwed onto the implant, which connects it to the tooth.
The crown, the visible part, screwed or cemented onto the abutment depending on your situation.
Each implant is planned in 3D from your X-ray, then placed with the help of our guided surgery system.

Contra-indications
Your general health
Contra-indications to implants are rare, but some situations need to be discussed before any treatment:
Certain medications, such as anticoagulants, antimitotics or bisphosphonates, can be a significant contra-indication.
Growth must be complete. An X-ray can confirm this if needed.
Any general illness should always be reported to your dentist.
At your pre-implant assessment, tell us about all your conditions and treatments, even those that seem unrelated. Many situations remain compatible with implants: well-controlled diabetes or osteoporosis, for example, simply require extra precautions.
Your mouth
Some situations in the mouth can also hinder implant placement:
insufficient bone volume, which a bone graft can often remedy;
untreated gum disease (periodontitis);
confirmed bruxism (teeth grinding);
insufficient space between the two jaws.
A clinical examination and a 3D X-ray show whether your situation is suitable for implants.
Indications
You are missing one tooth
An implant topped with a ceramic crown replaces the tooth without touching the neighbouring teeth, which remain intact. Solutions without implants can also be considered: we discuss them together at your consultation.
You are missing several teeth
Implants are an effective and long-lasting solution, and an alternative to a removable denture. They restore efficient chewing and greater everyday comfort. The number of implants depends on the number of teeth to be replaced.
You are missing all your teeth
Two solutions are possible:
A full removable denture. It can be stabilised by press studs attached to implants: the denture clips onto them, which helps it stay in place. It nevertheless remains removable.
A fixed prosthesis, offering comfort close to that of natural teeth. It usually rests on 6 to 8 implants in the upper jaw and 4 to 6 implants in the lower jaw.
